If you have been complaining of constant pain that feels like a dull ache or like cramps in your uterine area, our OB/GYN may recommend that you have a uterus biopsy. Although this can be a scary procedure as you wonder what the results will be, we will walk you through each step of the process and keep you comfortable at Huntington.
A uterus biopsy most often requires taking a sample of the endometrium, which is the lining of the uterus. The endometrium is the lining that sheds every month during your period, and that is incredibly important for a healthy pregnancy.
A uterus biopsy is seen to be as greatly preferred when compared to other more in-depth treatments, such as dilation and curettage. A uterus biopsy can typically be done in our office and does not require any anesthesia. In fact, it is not a very uncomfortable experience. The beginning of the procedure will be much the same as your regular Pap smear. From there, a sample of your uterine wall is removed and taken for testing. Following the procedure, you will be able to go on with your day.
There are many reasons why you may be experiencing uterine pain. You could have fibroid tumors, which are common in many women. The pain may even point to cancer. However, rather than being distracted by your concern over what the problem could be, it is best to have the biopsy as soon as possible so that you can be reassured as to the reason for your discomfort. Your test may come back as negative, and we will be able to move on to other possible causes of your pain. If it does come back positive, we will be able to recommend a course of treatment early on, letting you be treated and allowing you to move on with your life as soon as possible.
