If your face is beginning to look older than you feel because of aging, sun exposure or other reasons, a minimal downtime facelift in Huntington may be your best option. You may not be ready for a full facelift, but need some rejuvenating of your sagging, wrinkled skin. A minimal downtime facelift may give you the natural-looking results you want.
What is a Minimal Downtime Facelift?
The procedure addresses the same concerns that a full facelift addresses but our surgeon uses smaller incisions. We may recommend this procedure for people who have mild to moderate skin sagging but would like to remedy it for a more youthful appearance.
The short incisions are usually made in front of your ears and sometimes behind them. The incisions may not disrupt your hairline. The underlying muscles are tightened and the facial tissue is repositioned. This creates a tighter foundation for the skin that is replaced with excess skin cut away. We use tiny stitches to hold the skin in place until it heals. The outcome may be firmer cheeks and lifted jawline.
What to Expect
A minimal downtime facelift is performed as an outpatient procedure. We usually use general anesthesia and it takes about one to one and a half hours. It may take longer if it is combined with other cosmetic surgeries such as nose surgery or eyelid surgery. For some patients, the minimal downtime facelift can be enhanced with injectable fillers.
During your first consultation, we may request your medical records and ask questions about your general health. We will need to know:
• What medicines you are taking including prescription, over-the-counter, herbal remedies and dietary supplements
• If you have any allergies or other medical conditions such as diabetes
• If you have previously had cosmetic surgery on your face
• If you smoke you will need to quit for a few weeks before and after the surgery. Smoking inhibits tissue healing and may increase the risk of infection and interfere with the healing process
• If you take any anti-inflammatories such as ibuprofen or aspirin that you will need to stop for a few days before and after the surgery
After the Surgery
Our surgeon will apply bandages on the operations for the first night. For several weeks, we will monitor your recovery and inform you when you can go back to work or your other normal daily activities. This is usually within a week when your appearance looks more normal and you feel comfortable.
